Hawaiian Māmaki (pron: maah-mah-key) is a stingless nettle native to the Hawaiian Islands, long revered in lāʻau lapaʻau — indigenous Hawaiian healing — for its soothing, restorative, and tonifying properties.
Brewed, it's silky and medium-bodied with an amber color and natural notes of hazelnut, bamboo, and honey. The longer it steeps, the more syrupy and concentrated it becomes. It can be prepared hot or cold. Māmaki is naturally caffeine-free and rich in antioxidants, polyphenols, zinc, and potassium.
A University of Hawaii study detailed how Hawaiian māmaki tea can assist with lowering cholesterol levels, balancing blood sugar, addressing gastrointestinal issues, and improving liver function. Māmaki possesses anti-microbial and anti-viral properties, and is rich in three powerful antioxidants: catechins, which aid in combating cell damage and diseases; chlorogenic acid, which helps in lowering high blood pressure; and rutin, which can aid in maintaining a healthy body weight. Studies also suggest māmaki can help fight fatigue, depression, and insomnia.
Our māmaki is hand-harvested at a Hāna farm on Maui, cultivated through regenerative practices in Hawaiʻi's volcanic forest. Sourced directly from the farm.
Hot: Steep 1–2 tsp (1–2g) in 8–10 oz boiling water for 10 minutes. Brew leaves twice. Cold brew: Crumble ¼ cup into a quart jar, fill with boiling water, steep overnight in the fridge. Drink throughout the week — optionally with honey, cinnamon, or guava juice.
Organic. Single-origin from Hāna, Maui. Hand-harvested. Regeneratively grown.
