Tajima Botanica is a female-founded business from Maui, Hawaii, guided by ancestral knowledge, medicinal origins of tea, and Japanese samurai tea ceremony.

Founder Sera Tajima, grew up with Hawaii's deep respect for the ʻāina, and Japanese devotion to craft.

Sera initially learned tea ceremony at Doshisha University in Kyoto and later trained under the 17th generation of Sekishu-ryu.

Tajima Botanica offers ceremonial Japanese teas sourced direct from tea gardens in Kyoto, alongside Hawaiian-grown botanicals that carry the mana of the islands, historically used in lāʻau lapaʻau.

Tajima Botanica exists to cultivate the knowledge of our ancestors and help people reconnect to their highest self through the ritual of tea.

  • The enso circle, painted with the fluid grace of traditional sumi-e rooted in Zen Buddhism, represents the endless cycle of tea. At its heart sits the family's crest, a kamon that carries deep cultural significance. Each family clan has their own crest. During feudal times, these crests determined the colors of samurai armor and announced lineage and honor.

  • Shaped like the Japanese quince, the mokko crest carries connotations of prosperity, fertility, and abundance. Its form suggests completeness and balance, a design favored for its timeless desire for growth. The mokko rose to prominence through Oda Nobunaga, one of Japan's most powerful feudal lords.

  • Below the crest, a single delicate leaf grows from this ancestral foundation, symbolizing the growth of something entirely new. Below, the kanji for Tajima flows in traditional calligraphy strokes, completing our story.
